LessonLoop VS MyMusicStaff

MyMusicStaff is the category default — 760+ reviews, NAMM award, a real track record. It also raised its base price without announcing it, charges for every teacher you add, and officially retired its mobile app. The details matter. Here they are.

The 60-second verdict

The default choice vs the better deal.

Pricing model
Flat £39 vs $16.95 + $4.95/teacher

Every teacher you add costs $4.95/mo, forever. Around eight teachers you’ve passed our £39 School tier — and their base just rose 13% ($14.95→$16.95) with no announcement.

AI
LoopAssist vs nothing

No AI anywhere in MyMusicStaff — their closest automation is receipt-photo scanning. LoopAssist drafts invoices, chases balances and answers questions in every LessonLoop plan, plus an MCP connector for ChatGPT & Claude.

Mobile
Native iOS app vs retired app

MyMusicStaff’s mobile app is officially gone — their support docs now tell users to bookmark the website. A rebuilt app is promised in review replies; today it’s browser-only.

Where MyMusicStaff genuinely wins

Track record and community: 4.8★ from 760+ Capterra reviews, a NAMM Best in Show award, and years of history — that’s real, and we won’t pretend otherwise. They also bundle SMS reminders and a free website builder. If those outweigh flat pricing, AI and a native app for you, they’re a fine choice.

Questions

Straight answers.

Is MyMusicStaff bad?
No — it’s the most-reviewed tool in the category and most users rate it highly. But “popular” and “right for you” aren’t the same thing: the bill grows per teacher, the base price just rose without an announcement, the mobile app is retired, and there’s no AI. Those are facts, not opinions — check the receipts above.
Is LessonLoop actually cheaper?
For a solo teacher the starting prices are close ($16.95 vs our £15). The gap opens when you hire: every teacher adds $4.95/mo on their plan while ours stays flat — by around eight teachers you’ve passed our £39 School tier, and it keeps widening. Use the slider above with your own numbers.
Can I import my MyMusicStaff data?
Yes — pupils, guardians and lesson history come across, and we help you do it, free, on every plan. Most studios are live within a day.
What does MyMusicStaff have that LessonLoop doesn’t?
A longer track record, a bigger community, bundled SMS reminders and a free website builder. If you need a website built for you and SMS in the box, that’s a genuine plus. What you give up: flat pricing, AI, native iOS, Xero sync, WhatsApp and your own branding.
Do they have a mobile app?
Not anymore. The beta app was retired — their own support docs say to bookmark the mobile website. Their team has said a rebuilt app is in progress in review replies; nothing has shipped as of July 2026. LessonLoop’s native iOS app is on the App Store today.
Is LessonLoop UK-only?
It’s built UK-first — GBP, term dates, VAT-aware invoicing, UK GDPR — but studios anywhere can use it; billing is in GBP via Stripe.
