The 60-second verdict

A usage meter vs a flat fee.

Pricing model
Flat £39 vs base + $0.32 per lesson

Teachworks charges a base fee plus a fee for every student lesson — and a group lesson with five pupils counts as five. Your bill literally rises when you teach more. Ours doesn’t.

Add-on economics
All included vs paid extras

Their most-requested feature ever — 2-way Google Calendar sync — shipped in Nov 2025 as a paid add-on. Third-party billing: $5/mo. SMS: $0.022/msg. Bulk email past quota: metered. LessonLoop sells no feature add-ons at all.

Music fit
Music-first vs tutoring-first

Teachworks is tutoring software with a music-school skin. No practice tracking, no streaks, no repertoire, no native Xero — and your subscription is charged in USD with FX exposure every month.

Where Teachworks genuinely wins

Breadth and flexibility: 70+ integrations, 46 languages, genuinely powerful custom-field and multi-branch setups for large tutoring agencies. Their UK Split Invoice Payments add-on is a real (and rare) feature for self-employed-tutor agency compliance. If you run a mixed tutoring agency at scale, it deserves a look.

Do the maths

Group lessons multiply their meter.

Teachworks charges per student lesson — every pupil in every lesson, every month. We always grant them their cheapest plan for the volume. Drag to your monthly lesson volume.

Questions

Straight answers.

Is Teachworks bad?
No — for large multi-branch tutoring agencies it’s genuinely capable, with integrations and custom fields most rivals can’t match. But for a music school the economics work against you: you pay per student lesson (groups multiply it), in dollars, and the features you’d expect included are sold as add-ons.
What does “per student lesson” actually cost me?
A studio running 400 student lessons a month on their Starter plan pays $16.49 + 400×$0.32 = $144.49/mo (≈£113) — before SMS, before add-ons. Even auto-switched to their best plan for that volume, you’re over £70/mo. LessonLoop is £39, flat, unlimited. The slider above does the maths for any volume.
Can I import my Teachworks data?
Yes — export your students, families and lesson history as CSV and we’ll map and import it for you, free, on every plan.
What does Teachworks have that LessonLoop doesn’t?
Multi-branch management for big agencies, 70+ integrations, 46 languages, and the UK Split Invoice Payments add-on for self-employed-tutor agency models. Real strengths — aimed at tutoring chains, not music schools.
Does Teachworks have AI?
Only a customer-support chatbot (launched Aug 2025) that answers questions about Teachworks itself. There’s no AI in the product — nothing drafts your invoices, chases balances or answers in plain English. LoopAssist does all three, in every LessonLoop plan.
